Brightwell Art Club

Brightwell Art Club was started over 20 years ago by an enthusiastic group of locals and an art teacher, and since then it has gone from strength to strength. The Art Club now has over 20 members and is happy to take enquiries from potential new members its never too late to learn something new! We meet on Saturday mornings, during term time, in the Village Hall from 10.00 a.m. until 12.30 p.m.

It doesn't matter if you have no experience at all or if you are a long-practised artist. Some of us had no experience of painting at all until we joined! We have four tutors who have different specialities, alongside their general art tutoring experience. This means everyone, whatever their medium or ability, gets to feel involved and tutored if they want it. The sessions on specific topics are always optional and some members just come along to do their own thing and to socialise with like-minded people or to be inspired.

Were a very friendly and sociable group and we often go to the Red Lion at the end of each term for lunch and/or a drink. As many of you know, in December each year we hold an Annual Exhibition in the Village Hall with other local arts and crafts alongside our work. It is a very busy and popular village event. We also try to have an outdoor painting day in Summer whether permitting.

The Art Club has a library of books that members can take out and we subscribe to both The Artist and Leisure Painter magazines. We also have an 'art' box which can be used by members during sessions.  The termly fee for 12 sessions is only 54, which works out at 4.50 a week, which we think it is very good value for money!  We are aware that not all members can manage to come every week, which is why we keep the fee as low as we can in spite of rises in costs for hiring the hall and for the tutors.

To give you a flavour of what we are about, there is a copy of our latest calendar below. We have regular newsletters and updates during the year so that members get reminders about what is going on at Art Club.

If you think youd like to develop your talents with other artists or try a new hobby, just contact Veronica Wood, at Or pop along for coffee with us one Saturday so that you can see what we get up to and meet some of the members. Wed love to see you!
