Nearly fifty 12-18 year olds were involved in the first-ever virtual rowing competition in the village hall. It was organised by Brightwell’s own rowing champion, James Stephenson – with a little bit of help from some friends.

Chris Baines's photo shows Malcolm Howard (standing). Malcolm is a Gold winner at the Beijing Olympics, Silver winner at the London Olympics and indoor rowing machine World Champion -–so the coaching was pretty good! American rower Jesse Elzinga is kneeling, bottom left, and Alexandra Peach is rowing.

The event used high-tech rowing machines linked to a big screen, so rowers were able to see their boat move and track its racing progress.

Organiser James Stephenson rowed for Oxford in the winning reserves boat at the annual Oxford-Cambridge Boat Race, held on Easter Day.
