An Oxfordshire volunteer rescue group has been given 9,980 from the Big Lottery fund to buy a 10 man rescue raft and a dozen kits to help them access hard to reach watercourses. This will help them in floods, but also in their more everyday task of looking for missing people.

Oxfordshire Lowland Search and Rescue is a member of the Association of Lowland Search and Rescue
(ALSAR), who work alongside Mountain Rescue, Cave Rescue, the RNLI and Coastguard, to provide voluntary search and rescue services across the UK. It is managed and resourced entirely by volunteers, although the unit works directly with the police on searches. With the new equipment, they will also be able to help the Fire Service In times of flood.

The group relies entirely on public donations to support its liifesaving services within the county. To enquire about joining OxSAR, please contact Sarah Smith on For any other information, visit
