At least a ton of lead was stripped off St Agatha's Church roof on the night of 6 October. The lead is security marked, but unfortunately that is unlikely to secure its return.

If you saw any suspicious looking people or vehicles in the area or have any information which might help please call the Police via the 24 hour non-emergency telephone number 101.You can also call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Meanwhile the church gate is being padlocked at dusk (exact time depending on when the Church Room is in use for meetings). Church warden Margot Shawyer said: 'I apologise for those who may wish to walk in the churchyard in the evenings but trust that they understand why we have taken this measure.'

The theft comes hard on the heels of another lead-stripping incident at Brightwell School in September.
