SODC has announced that you can now use thin plastic bags to line the green food bins collected at the kerbside every week.

A recent survey showed that 30% of food waste ends up in grey bins. The rule change aims to make food recycling easier for all.

Food waste is taken to Agrivert's anaerobic digestion plant near Wallingford to be recycled into gas for electricity and fertiliser for farmland. The plant is now able to accept thin carrier bags, bread bags, paper wrappings or normal pedal bin liners. You can also continue to use compostable liners, or put the food straight in without any lining.

The bags will be removed and sent to an Energy Recovery Facility.
