CRICKET MATCH FOR SAM HOLLAND

CRICKET MATCH FOR SAM HOLLAND

A cricket match for the family and friends of Sam Holland on Brightwell rec raised 750 for Sobell House. A hornbeam was planted in his memory during the tea break.

Sam, who died unexpectedly in Oxford in December 2016, played cricket for Brightwell with his son, Hereward, long after the family left the village in 2000. He was a talented gardener and continued to run his landscape gardening business after he moved to Oxford.

Sam was a life member of the Cricket Club, and took great pride in its grounds. In this picture of Sam seated on a vintage roller, you can see the old pavilion in the background. This started life as a railway signal box and burnt down on Christmas Day 1997.
