Elizabeth Laird, the much-travelled author of an evocative children’s novel about Syrian refugees, will be speaking in the Village Hall on March 24th, 6.30 for 7 pm.

Her novel, Welcome to Nowhere, is aimed at children aged nine and over and poses a simple question: 'Where do you go when you can't go home?'

Readers will appreciate her vivid portrayal of life in war-torn Syria and in the Zaatari Refugee Camp in Jordan. Macmillan Children’s Books will be donating 50p per hardback copy sold in the UK to the Mandala Trust, which supports the education of Syrian refugees.

Brightwell Supporting Refugees, which is in the process of registering as a charity, hopes villagers will continue to show their amazing generosity by coming to hear Elizabeth Laird speak, and donating at
this event. Tickets (free) are available from the Village Stores, and there will be refreshments after the talk. << Go Back
