Thames Valley Police are to close local police counters in Wallingford, Didcot and Henley among other places from April 1 2016. They say a survey of over 9,000 people showed 86% preferred to contact police on the phone in a non emergency.

The public will still be able to contact the police by phone, via the website, social media accounts or the community alert system. The changes are estimated to bring savings of 29 million by 2021.

Police say no one will be more than 10 miles away from a walk-in police station, and services will still be available at Abingdon, St Aldates, Oxford, and Kidlington.
